Leicestershire Business Woman of the Year Awards 2018

This blog is all about my biggest achievement so far since launching Ruby & Fi Events.

In August 2018 I received an email from an external Events Company that were sponsored by the Leicester Mercury to inform me that I had been nominated

for this year’s Leicester Mercury Women in Business Awards 2018 in the New Business of the Year and Small Business of the Year categories.

WOW I am wondering how I even got there in the first place, to me, this is something I would often read about and not take much notice and never would have thought I would ever be in this position myself.

The nominations are judged by an independent and impartial panel of judges.
In order to assist the judges, I had to complete an application form.

To be honest when I first saw the form I was taken back as thought

‘how could I possibly fill out the form when I had only been in business for 5 months’

It took a lot of courage to finally fill out the form and send it off. I soon forgot about the form as really had thought I would have never make the next stage.

Little did I know I actually did make the next stage! Whoo Hoo.

Leicester Mercury Awards – Leicestershire Business Woman of the Year Awards 2018So 4 weeks later I received another email from the same company congratulating me on becoming a finalist. I literally could not believe my eyes and had to read the email at least 4 times.
Once it had sunk in I was on literally cloud 9!!

I had been shortlisted as a finalist under the NEW BUSINESS category and out of all the people made it to the top 3, blimey never expected to have got to that stage.

I was smiling from ear to ear, feeling really good about myself as setting a business is one of the hardest things I have had to do. It takes dedication, self-belief, motivation, working late nights, making sacrifices, and neglecting oneself.
Those of you that have set your own business’s will know exactly what I am talking about.
As well as running a house with two children and a husband who may I add has supported me from day 1 and believed in me and literally been my rock.

Leicester Mercury Awards – Leicestershire Business Woman of the Year Awards 2018On September 13th I was invited to a pre-drinks party to meet other finalists and sponsors at the gorgeous location of Winstanley House, one of my favourite venues in Leicester. Also a significant one for me, as the first party I styled was at Winstanley House. The evening went well as far as was the flow of prosseco.

Meeting some great local inspirational ladies sharing stories and finding out about new business’s I had never come across. Even my husband enjoyed the networking.

Leicester Mercury Awards – Leicestershire Business Woman of the Year Awards 2018One of the best things was meeting someone that had been to one of my parties, was lovely to hear about how they spoke about the party and how much they loved the attention to detail and going that extra mile.

On September 27th I attended the Tigers stadium in Leicester for the final awards. Dressing up and putting on my new favourite shoes made me feel like a million dollars.

I didn’t take home the winning trophy but the evening was sensational, being apart of something so big in such a small amount of time was literally more than what I could ask for.
